Already in the springtime I had the pleasure to take wonderful shots of swans and ducks at the Stadtweiher in Kempten. This time I was very impressed by a huge and shiny dragonfly, which I had never seen before. My only chance to take some shots, was to get the dragonfly in flight, as it never made a break and sat down.

Afterwards I had a look on the german site “Libelleninfo“, and I was sure, that it must have been a Brilliant Emerald (Somatochlora metallica). I was really lucky that the dragonfly did stop many times right in front of me in the air, so that I had at least some little time to focus. Once, the Brilliant Emerald did stop so close to me that I had no more chance to focus, as it was too close. At this moment I was thinking that the dragonfly played some tricks on me!

Nevertheless I managed to take several excellent photos of the dragonfly and feel quite happy with my results. Of course I tried to show you only the best shots of the Brilliant Emerald, but luckily/unfornately there are quite many of them left!
